WWE Royal Rumble 2017: Predicting the Road to WrestleMania

Will The Undertaker’s latest walk down the aisle for WrestleMania be featured in a championship match? Photo Credit: Miguel Discart, Flickr.com

Let’s play a game. How about we book the 2017 WWE Royal Rumble event!

The WWE main roster will have to follow the results of WWE NXT TakeOver: San Antonio the night before and will have to get the fans eagerly await WrestleMania in April. It’s time to break down each bout and what implications it can have down the road.

Remember, these are not predictions. These are only analyzing which roads WWE Creative will take before everyone enters the ring. Click here to read my full slate of who I think will win.

Kickoff bout: WWE Raw Tag Team Champions Cesaro & Sheamus vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Who should win: Anderson & Gallows

Gallows and Anderson have proven to be workhorses in the tag team division. They’re long overdue to legitimize their dominance and would make great champions.

Who would probably win: Cesaro & Sheamus

It would be too soon to label this odd couple as paper champions. Having them retain would be the smart call for their reign, unless the creative team has other plans in mind for the tag champs.

Kickoff bout: Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

Who should win: Nia Jax

The WWE needs more faces in their women’s division, especially on both shows. Expect Jax to become the victor in this match.

Who will probably win: Nia Jax

Granted, Banks needs a victory on PPV. Bu this is the preshow. Having her lose to Jax won’t hurt momentum, especially if rumors pan out for WrestleMania.

Becky Lynch, Nikki Bella & Naomi vs. Alexa Bliss, Mickie James & Natalya

Who should win: Bliss, James & Natalya

Adding a new partnership means the wins need to happen. Bliss and James have the chance to do something special with their union. Why not have them get the win?

Who will probably win: Lynch, Bella & Naomi

WWE loves faces winning pointlessly. If that’s the case, then expect Lynch and Bella to get some level of revenge with Naomi in tow.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship: Rich Swann vs. Neville

Who should win: Neville

Isn’t it about time WWE Creative capitalized on Neville’s ability to make great matches on the fly? He was a former NXT champion after all.

Who will probably win: Swann

The WWE needs to establish credibility to its cruiserweight champions. Having Swann retain is the right call for the long run of the division.

WWE Raw Women’s Championship: Charlotte vs. Bayley

Who should win: Bayley

This is a tricky one only because it might be too soon. However, a loss would hurt Bayley close to WrestleMania. A DQ victory saves face for both.

Who will probably win: Charlotte

WWE really loves winning streaks, which Charlotte is currently on since last year. If Charlotte wins, it should be by cheating and not straight up. This puts heat on Charlotte while keeping Bayley in the hunt.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: AJ Styles vs. John Cena

Who should win: Styles

This moneymaking match saw Styles on the winning side on two occasions last year. He already defended against Cena and Dean Ambrose at No Mercy. Why not have him defend successfully in a solo bout?

Who would probably win: Cena

The door is open for Cena to tie Ric Flair’s record of 16 world titles within WWE. It’s only a matter of time. Besides, Cena winning would actually put a shock in WWE considering Styles is the favorite in this one.

WWE Universal Championship: Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns

Who should win: Owens

Owens needs more than just a DQ victory over Reigns. Having him win with no rules would send shockwaves for WWE Raw.

Who would probably win: Reigns

The time is now for Reigns to take control of his destiny, whether fans like it or not. He’s weathered the storm long enough. If he doesn’t take the Universal title now, when will he?

2017 Royal Rumble Match

Who should win: The Miz

With this many people, no one’s worked harder on the roster than The Miz. He revolutionized the Intercontinental title and brought out a different side of his persona throughout last year. Just watch Talking Smack for proof.

Who would probably win: The Undertaker

The Undertaker is a safe bet. Granted, Chris Jericho winning would solidify his feud with his best bud Owens. A returning Finn Balor provides many intriguing matchups on all sides. However, The Undertaker deserves one more shot at glory for WrestleMania. After all, seeing The Undertaker vie for one more title in his resume is all too intriguing for this year’s WrestleMania.
