Hello football diehards! Welcome to Week 5 of the NFL season! We saw quite a bit of surprises, and we also saw history along the way.
For starters, the Atlanta Falcons’ one-two punch of Matt Ryan and Julio Jones took care of the Carolina Panthers 48-33. Ryan threw for 503 yards and four touchdowns. Jones caught 12 passes from Ryan for 300 yards.
Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers wasn’t about to be outdone by Ryan. He threw five touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s win over Kansas City 43-14. Roethlisberger also passed Dan Marino for the third longest touchdown-passing streak at home. It was his 40th consecutive game that Roethlisberger accomplished this feat.
History wasn’t kind to the new England Patriots, however. They were shutout by the Buffalo Bills 16-0. The last time that happened to New England was in 1993. During hat year, Drew Bledsoe was the rookie QB. Bill Belichick was coaching with the Cleveland Browns. And a certain Super Bowl winning QB named Tom Brady wasn’t even out of high school yet.
Speaking of Brady and the Browns, the Patriots get their leader back this week against Cleveland. The Browns are also searching for their first win of the season. Will gridiron rust affect Brady, or will it be business as usual once more?
