Hello everyone! Welcome to the NFL Championship games.
The second round almost had a few upsets last weekend. Saturday began with a shootout between the Baltimore Ravens and the New England Patriots. It was New England that prevailed 35-31. The Seattle Seahawks outclassed the Carolina Panthers and also held on to their home field advantage 31-17.
On Sunday, the NFL demonstrated two completely different games. The Green Bay Packers held on to beat the Dallas Cowboys 26-21 thanks to the “Calvin Johnson rule.” Tony Romo, on fourth down, threw a bomb to Dez Bryant, who made the catch. Unfortunately, the ball hit the ground while Bryant had possession. The rulebook states that if the receiver loses control of the ball after it hits the ground, then the pass is ruled incomplete. In other words, the referees got it right.
The next game featured Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos shut down by his old team, the Indianapolis Colts. They won at Denver 24-13.
I went 2-2 last week, keeping a .500 record in this postseason at 4-4. Here’s a recap at how I did.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 10
BALTIMORE RAVENS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 4:35 p.m.
CAROLINA PANTHERS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS 8:15 p.m. X
SUNDAY, JANUARY 11
DALLAS COWBOYS AT GREEN BAY PACKERS 1:05 p.m.
INDIANAPOLIS COLTS AT DENVER BRONCOS- 4:40 p.m. (s.o.) X
Here are my picks for this week. Let’s take a look at the matchups.
NFC CHAMPIONSHIP: GREEN BAY PACKERS AT SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
These two teams will meet once again to vie for the NFC Championship. Seattle won their first exchange in Week 1 in dominating fashion. Can Seattle continue their campaign to repeat by holding off a different Green Bay from that week? Will Aaron Rodgers rebound from his calf injury?
The packers stopped DeMarco Murray and the Cowboys running game last week. They have a tough task ahead against Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch. If they can stop the running game, expect Rodgers to pick apart the defense on the other side of the ball.
Pick: PACKERS over SEAHAWKS
AFC CHAMPIONSHIP: INDIANAPOLIS COLTS AT NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
These two teams met in Week 11, where the Patriots picked up a road win in Indianapolis. However, don’t expect this matchup to be similar. The Colts are running the gauntlet as the only Wild Card team still in. Can they channel that Wild Card momentum to a road victory?
Despite looking vulnerable, the Patriots have been here before. Expect experience over eagerness to take this one. And expect Tom Brady to lead the Patriots to another Super Bowl appearance.
Pick: PATRIOTS over COLTS
Good luck to all teams. If you’re making picks, good luck to as well. Also to check local listings, as times are subject to change.
