Super Bowl XLVIII: Battle of MetLife Stadium

January 31, 2014

And then, there were two…

Welcome to Super Bowl XLVIII. This Sunday at MetLife Stadium will feature the two best teams in the NFL going to war. The best in the AFC will face the best in the NFC, the first time in four years that has happened.

Both met expectations with the hype machines following them. Both teams started firing on all cylinders, which led to them hosting their respective playoff conferences for this postseason. Now, they’ll do battle in East Rutherford, NJ for the Lombardi Trophy.

It’s a battle of old school versus new school, as the Denver Broncos face the Seattle Seahawks.

The Broncos have the No. 1 offense, led by their star quarterback Peyton Manning. He’s put on another MVP-caliber year, but he hasn’t done it alone. The Broncos’ defense featuring DT Terrance Knighton is also formidable, holding the New England Patriots at bay in an impressive display at the AFC Championship Game.

The Seahawks have the No. 1 defense, led by their confident cornerback Richard Sherman. Despite his bravado, he’s managed to back up his words. So has the Seattle offense, powered by Marshawn Lynch’s running and Russell Wilson’s flair for the dramatic.

Coaches who haven’t won any NFL titles lead both teams. Seahawks coach Pete Carroll enters his first Super Bowl as a head coach. Broncos coach John Fox enters his second Super Bowl, his first appearance since losing to the New England Patriots at Super Bowl XVIII.

The Seahawks need to disrupt Peyton Manning to win. The Broncos, meanwhile, must tire out the Seahawks defense. On the other side, the Broncos need to contain Lynch and let Wilson attempt to beat them. The Seahawks must establish the running game to control this team.

Weather conditions will affect this game, as temperatures are expected to be in the 20s. Who knows how each offense will react, but one thing’s for sure: experience will play out in a huge way.

Manning’s been in this situation before, going 1-1 in Super Bowls. He’ll do everything in his power to win his second Super Bowl. If Manning’s on his game, he’ll dissect the Seahawks’ ferocious defense. Otherwise, Seattle will bring their first Super Bowl back home to Seattle.

Prediction: Broncos 27-17
