2011 NFL Week 15 Picks

Wednesday December 14, 2011

Welcome to Week 15 of the NFL season. The football landscape is heating up as the postseason draws near. The Giants are now atop the NFC East. Green Bay remains undefeated. Tim Tebow keeps on winning. Houston is now in the playoffs for the first time in their franchise history. The playoff landscape is changing into an unpredictable picture.

I went 12-4 last week, brining my total to 132 wins and 75 losses. Here’s a look back at what I got wrong.

Games of the Week:

Two games will be worth watching this week. One game is a battle between one of the greats and a phenom. The other could be a potential Super Bowl matchup.

The Patriots travel to Denver and take on the Broncos. Tom Brady leads New England’s powerful offense and is one of the four quarterbacks on pace to pass Dan Marino’s all-time passing yards record (Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Eli Manning the other three). Tim Tebow is getting the opportunities to win thanks to his team’s stellar defense. Tebow now has a defense in New England that is not at its best. The difference between the Patriots and the Broncos could be up to the coaching. Bill Belichick and John Fox are no strangers to each other, as Belichick beat Fox in Super Bowl XXXVIII. Déjà vu should happen again in that regard. The Tebow train will stop here, but the Broncos will not lose quietly.

Prediction: Patriots 21-20

Our next game features a possible Super Bowl matchup with huge ramifications and spots on the line. The Steelers take on the 49ers in a game between two powerhouse defenses. However, the Steelers would either be without Ben Roethlisberger (high ankle sprain) or have him playing through the pain. Roethlisberger is used to playing through adversity. It can’t be the same for 49ers QB Alex Smith. He was beaten down by the Ravens, a team who beat the Ravens both times. The 49ers are fighting for a first round bye, while the Steelers fight for a playoff spot. Expect experience to overcome in this Monday Night game.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 28-17
