Happy Veteran’s Day! This day, we celebrate and honor our armed forces for their service protecting the United States. Today is a day of remembrance. Tomorrow is a day where fighters of a different kind do battle on a different field. It should be a night that the late Joe Frazier could be proud of.
The UFC takes its biggest gamble tomorrow night as “UFC on FOX” debuts at 9pm EST. The main event is a battle between two dominant heavyweights. The undefeated World Champion Cain Velasquez takes on Junior Dos Santos. Both fighters can strike and can finish a fight. Velasquez is skilled with his wrestling and boxing abilities. Dos Santos is more of a striker, but he has shown no ground game. He loves standing up and can keep the fight standing. Velasquez is the better-rounded fighter. He rarely uses submissions, but he loves using takedowns. Expect the champion to retain if he sticks to his skill set and game plan. Many others will appear, including former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Lesnar will be an analyst for the fight. Given Lesnar’s track record, his voice will be heard dung this fight.
Immediately after the UFC, boxing holds its PPV at 10pm EST with a rivalry hopefully settled. Manny Pacquiao takes on Juan Marquez in their third bout against each other. The score is split at one apiece, but Marquez wasn’t convinced Pacquiao should be the winner. Marquez has a lot to prove, and his determination could help him win the WBO Welterweight title. Pacquiao focused on bulking up for this fight, which his camp believes his power will increase with his speed. Pacquiao fought at 144 pounds many times before, while Marquez’s only fight at 140+ pounds was an embarrassing loss against Floyd Mayweather. Expect Pacquiao to retain, as this fight won’t stop the boxing fans’ wishes of Pacquiao vs. Mayweather.
Watch both fights. They should not disappoint. Until then, enjoy Veterans Day and your weekend.
