Weekend War!

Friday August 5, 2011

Tonight starts a huge weekend in sports. Two sports make this weekend a must-see. One is America’s pastime, while the other is a cult sensation.

Major League Baseball is approaches the stretch as the road to the playoffs gets closer. The Phillies are pulling away in the NL East. The NL Central race slowly turns from a three-way race between the Brewers, Cardinals and Pirates to the pirates being the odd team out. The Giants have a ½ game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The AL West features the Angels one game behind the Texas Rangers. The Al Central features a two team race between the Detroit Tigers and the Cleveland Indians. However, the big showdown will take place starting tonight in Boston.

The rivalry renews again with first place in the AL East on the line. The Red Sox hosts the Yankees in a three game series. Boston has won seven straight against their rivals. The Yankees come in with a seven game win streak on the line. Something’s got to give; who will rise to the occasion after this series? Check local listings for all three baseball games.

Tomorrow night brings the return of UFC as they host their 133rd pay-per-view event. No titles will be on the line, but pride and honor will be. Two hated rivals will collide as Rashad Evans returns to the octagon after a year absence. He will take on a man he never beat in Tito Ortiz. Ortiz is coming off a knockout victory against Ryan Bader in last month’s UFC 132. The last time these two went into battle was July 7, 2007. They fought to a controversial draw, which left a bitter pill in both fighters. Here are excerpts from the constant trash talk between both fighters:

Check local listings for both the baseball games and the UFC pay-per-view. See you next time.
