Welcome to the end of the event we love to call March Madness! This year’s tournament did not disappoint. Everyone’s bracket seems to be shutdown. Even my bracket became victim after yesterday’s games. Yet, all four remaining teams earned their way into this showdown of epic proportions. Let’s take a look at how they got here.
The #8 Butler Bulldogs return to the final four and could play in the championship game once again. They first took out Old Dominion and then upset Southeast’s #1 Pittsburgh in the first week. This past weekend featured Butler beating Wisconsin and Florida to get to this point. They must face VCU to advance to the title game. Will they be the next victims of VCU, or will Butler get another shot at the title?
The #3 UConn Huskies have emerged once again, seeking their first championship since 2004. The Big East Champions defeated Bucknell and Cincinnati in the first week. They then beat San Diego St. and Arizona to win the West bracket. They will take on Kentucky next week. Will UConn rise again, or will Kentucky derail another team?
The #4 Kentucky Wildcats flew under the radar in a tough division. The East featured favorites Ohio S. and North Carolina, and Kentucky beat both of them. In the first week, they defeated Princeton and West Virginia. They now take on another test in UConn. Will Kentucky advance to their first championship since 1998? Or will UConn end their dreams?
#11 Virginia Commonwealth has been playing with chips on their shoulders. They played in the tournament beating USC. They then went on in the Southwest division to beat Georgetown and Purdue. The next week featured the Rams beating Florida St. and Kansas. They are on pace to win it all, making them the biggest upset team in NCAA history. All they have to do is beat Butler. Will they make history, or will they come up short?
How are your brackets? Did they get bamboozled or are you still in it by a thread? Write down your predictions, regardless if you’re still in it. Even if you are out of it, there’s no denying that this will truly be a fight to the finish. Until next time, knuckleheads!!!
