Sunday may be Super Bowl XLV, but this Saturday belongs to the UFC. UFC 126 features three marquee matches that should have ramifications for the rest of the year.
Our first match features two young bloods in the light-heavyweight division. Jon “Bones” Jones will take on Ryan Bader. Jones looks to give Bader his first loss in his MMA career. Both are already eying a title shot. Many fighters feared taking on the exciting and dynamic Jones. Bader wanted this fight, and he’s going to get it.
The co-main event features two fan favorites in the octagon. Former middleweight champion Rich “Ace” Franklin will take on former light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin. Both fighters are similar in style, but Griffin is the bigger of the two. This is Griffin’s first fight in over a year since losing to Anderson Silva. Meanwhile, Franklin is eyeing a title shot at the light-heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. Expect this fight to be a war.
The main event features the UFC Middleweight Title on the line. The reigning champion Anderson “The Spider” Silva will face “Phenom” Vitor Belfort. This fight was supposed to happen last summer, but Chael Sonnen took Belfort’s place. Now, we’re good to go. Belfort earned his shot by beating Rich Franklin last year. Silva kept his title but is still met with skepticism about his work ethic during fights. Silva pushed the pace but toyed with most of his recent title defenses. Belfort is hungry to get back on top. Beating Silva will catapult him on that spot.
