NFL Week 16 Picks

Thursday December 23, 2010

Welcome to the near end of this NFL season. It looks to be exciting until the final snap as the playoff picture is getting clearer. Yours truly took a big hit last week and barely went 8-8. This brings my total to 133-84. Here’s a look back at what I got wrong.

Add Atlanta to the list of teams officially in the playoffs. They join New England, Pittsburgh and Chicago, who clinched the NFC North last Monday. They also might have officially retired Brett Favre, who joined the long list of players getting a concussion. Packers QB Aaron Rodgers will play against the Giants this week as he returns from a concussion suffered in Detroit. Here are my picks for this week. Remember, the s.o. stands for the shutout game.

Now it’s time for my game of the week. This one’s a no-brainer.

Game of the Week:

The Saints want to repeat for another Super Bowl run. They’ll have to take on the Falcons before they can clinch a playoff spot. These two NFC South Division rivals will duke it out primetime on ESPN. Both teams will fight over the NFC South, but the Saints need to win this game and hope Atlanta loses against the Panthers next week for that to happen. It’s likely they will at least get a spot instead of the NFC South, but they should have a shot to repeat as Super Bowl Champs.

Many people in the NFC believe the Falcons will become Champs or at least the NFC representative in the Super Bowl. They have been tested throughout this season and are living up to their potential. They have impressive victories over Tampa Bay, Baltimore and New Orleans themselves. They can surely bring the fight to any team and deservedly should have home-field advantage in the NFC playoff branch. Yet, they need to beat the Saints for this to happen. Even though both teams need this victory, the Saints need it more.

Prediction: Saints 34-28

Well that’s it for today. Good luck with your picks and teams this week. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Yours Truly,

Sebastian Maldonado
