NFL Week 14 Picks

Saturday December 11, 2010

Welcome to Week 14, sports fans! As we get closer to the playoff picture, teams step up their game or they crumble under pressure. It’s time to separate the contenders from the pretenders. The Colts kept their slim hopes alive last Thursday by beating the Titans 30-28. This also brings my total losses still at 71. Here’s a look at the rest of my picks. Remember, the s.o. stands for the potential shutout.

Every game has their potential playoff picture. It’s time to address a man making history, whether he plays or not.

Time for the magic man to take over!

Pure Magic:

Brett Favre has a sprained shoulder. He plans to start against the New York Giants tomorrow. Let’s make it clear; he plans to start against a team that has taken out quarterbacks like Tony Romo and Jay Cutler among others. I advise against it.

Yes, streaks are immortal in the sports world. If Favre starts tomorrow, it would be his 298th consecutive start. The second closet after that is Peyton Manning with 200. Favre is the NFL’s “Iron Man”, but even he realizes his time could be up. The worst fear any fan of football could have is a player being wheeled off the field on a stretcher. This could happen tomorrow to Favre. The streak might not end over a shoulder or age or performance, but it could end because of the Giants.

The Giants have taken out quarterbacks for an extended amount of time. Romo is probably out for the season. Cutler had a concussion and missed his next game. His backup, Todd Collins, suffered a shoulder stinger against them. Lions’ QB Shaun Hill was also taken out by the Giants defense. Favre is in big trouble; he would be facing a sea of sharks smelling blood, waiting to pounce. The Giants need the game, too. They need to win to stay in the NFC East hunt to catch Philadelphia. The Giants are expected to come to play. It would be a miracle if Favre leaves unscathed. The last thing we need is another player carted off the field.

Good luck with your picks and teams. See you next time.

Yours Truly,

Sebastian Maldonado
