George Steinbrenner 1930-2010

The Yankees lost another member of their family. George Steinbrenner passed away this morning at the age of 80 due to a “massive heart attack”.

Steinbrenner, appropriately nicknamed “The Boss”, bought the Yankees in 1973. He turned a team into an international, billion dollar franchise. Due to Steinbrenner going after the best available players, the Yankees won seven World Series Championships under the Steinbrenner era. Steinbrenner’s persona was that of “Patton”. He will be known for his fighting spirit and his unrelenting drive to win. Steinbrenner set the standard and aspired many team owners (baseball and others) to copy his style. Yet, he was one of a kind and will be sorely missed…
