Bob Sheppard 1910-2010

Monday July 12, 2010

This past weekend, the baseball world and Yankees lost a great man. Bob Sheppard passed away at the age of 99. He was the voice of the Yankees for nearly 50 years. Some even dubbed him as the “Voice of God”. Sheppard retired two years ago for health reasons. Sheppard’s first game as the Yankee public-address announcer was also the first game of Mickey Mantle’s baseball career. He also announced for the New York football Giants from 1956 to 2005.

MLB will honor Sheppard this week during the All-Star Game. The man that always introduced Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium will introduce him once again during tomorrow’s game. Thank you for the memories…
