Sports Special: Super Bowl

Friday February 4, 2005

Hey sports fans; this is Sebastian Maldonado with the hottest updates, but let me tell you something about recent history.

The Super Bowl is just 3 days away.  The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the New England Patriots, but why am I writing this?  I’m writing this to WARN you of the upsets of 2004 and 2005.  It started with the NBA Finals, where the Pistons upset the Lakers in 5.  In baseball, the Yankees were supposed to sweep the Red Sox, but they lost in 7 to Beantown.  I got a few better: in tennis, Serena Williams lost the championship to Maria Sharapova.  In golf, Vijay Singh, a forgotten veteran, is now the #1 golf player, beating Tiger Woods.  In the now-defunct NHL, who expected the Tampa Bay Lightning to win the Stanley Cup?  The “aura” of the upset victory is strong.

In short, I am picking the Philadelphia Eagles because the upset is bound to happen.  No one will expect this to happen, and I will not be denied of a Super Bowl Victory again.  Once, shame on you; twice, shame on me.  Third luck’s the charm;  I’m a Giant fan, but I will watch this game as a football fan.  Everyone should watch the Super Bowl because it’s what every football fan is waiting for even if their team is watching from the small screen.  One team will have their heads up high.  The other will suffer a loss so devastating, that team may not win the big one for a while.  Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, for the thousands in Jacksonville, for the millions & MILLIONS watching at home, wellllllllllllllll LET’S GET READY TO RUMBLE!

Later you Knuckleheads,

Sebastian Maldonado
