Welcome to today’s sports update; I’m Sebastian Maldonado with all the hottest news in sports and boy, what news we got here. First, congratulations to the Phoenix Suns for an exciting basketball match-up.
Steve Nash came back from a hamstring injury to end the Pistons’ 8-game winning streak. The Suns came back from a 10-point deficit in the 4th quarter. In other news, Gary Payton has returned to the Celtics; the All-Star guard is expected to play on Sunday. With all the trades, which was the worst trade by far? What was the best trade?
The playoff race is tight for both the east and the west. The Nuggets and Lakers are tied for the 8th spot in the west. Believe it or not, the T-Wolves and the Clippers are 2-3 games behind. Who will get snubbed in the playoffs, and who just barely, BARELY, makes it to the playoffs?
In baseball, spring training officially began this week, with the Mets losing to the Nationals (relax Mets fans, it’s only spring training). Yesterday, 1B Jason Giambi took the field for the first time in a long time. Giambi went 0 for 1 with a walk and grounded out in a 2-2 tie with the Pirates; he signed autographs from the supportive fans in Tampa. Can Giambi repair his image? Why or why not? Plus, random drug testing began yesterday; how many players get caught with steroids? If any, who?
The football free agency strikes with a bang. Derrick Mason signed with the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets lose DT Jason Ferguson to the Cowboys and back-up running back Lamont Jordan to the Raiders. Congrats to Jermaine Trotter for his dedication to the Eagles franchise. He stayed with Philly instead of more money from the Chiefs and two other teams. Looks like it’s all about heart to him! With the draft coming up in about a month or two, who is the best prospect in the draft?
Well, that’s it for a while. I’ll return with the Spring Break Sports Special: NBA Crunch Time, where I will predict who will make the playoffs & who wins the finals. Until then you knuckleheads, good night!
