Welcome back sports fans to TODAY’S SPORTS UPDATE. This is Sebastian Maldonado with the 411 on the most major news regarding the sports we care or used to care about. Let’s start with basketball.
Everyone knows about the Pacers-Pistons brawl on Friday night, which was the most disgraceful event in sports I have ever seen. Here’s the good news that you didn’t know about on that same night: The Heat beat the Jazz in overtime, Sonics win their 9th straight, and the Knicks lost to the weakened Mavs by 2; impressive. Obviously, the Pacers’ chances of winning the NBA Finals are the same as the Knicks and Nets: slim and none. Yet, they can still make the playoffs, but this favors my pick to win it all (Miami!). However, be on the lookout for the Phoenix Suns; are they the dark horse to win the Western Conference? Plus, tonight is a good game airing on ESPN; the Cavs host the Pistons. Can they topple the defending champs or will they lose? Stay tuned.
In baseball, the “Who’s my daddy?” soap opera continues. Pedro Martinez was talking to A-Rod this time; does this make Boston’s chances of getting the 33-year old ace slim or does Pedro want more money from the Red Sox? After all, Pedro is a negotiator; who knows what could happen? Good news for Mets fans; they signed the young Kris Benson for a 3-year deal. For more free agent news, go to http://www.espn.com/mlb to find out who is going where.
In football, the games for Thanksgiving are BORING as usual; expect Peyton Manning and the Colts to out-gun the Lions, and watch Drew Henson make his first start in the NFL (watch at your own risk). How about last Sunday night’s nail-biter between the Packers and the Texans. Both teams played their hearts out until GB almost missed the game winning field goal; the score was 16-13. Who are the turkeys of the NFL? Will the Eagles clinch the division at the Meadowlands (ouch)? Can the Jets win another at Arizona? Last, but not least, who do you feel sorry for more: Bill Parcells or Joe Gibbs?
Well, that’s it for today’s sports update; I don’t need to tell anyone that I am grateful for your support. I love feedback, people, so after you eat that turkey, send your thoughts because the sports update is back for today. I will return in mid-December daily, but until then, Happy Thanksgiving and have a pleasant tomorrow.
