Hello there; this is Sebastian Maldonado with today’s sports update. Let’s go to the news.
Mike Mussina’s record may be 1-1, but his performance was uncanny. He pitched 6 2/3 innings, making the Red Sox go hitless for 6 innings. Has he truly become the Yankees’ ace? Well, he’s a positive answer for the pitching woes of the Bronx Bombers. Does the Curse of the Bambino truly exist? Who knows; yet, here are some “coincidences” that should convince you that the Babe is here when the Red Sox arrive at Yankee Stadium. Mariano Rivera arrived at the Stadium during the 3rd inning. Coincidence? Plus the Red Sox lost by 3. The score was 10-7, Yankees. Does the curse of the Bambino really exist? You decide.
Football was a week of overtime victors (49ers, Rams, Vikings) and big games (New England, Giants, Tennessee). This week is different; Pats will put their unbeaten streak on the line against the Seattle Seahawks. The Jets will do the same against the 49ers, and Philly (McNabb and T.O.) will host Carolina. Philly and Carolina will be a game of the week because if Philly loses they are tied with the Giants for FIRST PLACE. The NFC East is not big enough for both of them. However, another game of the week will be a battle between the QB with nine lives against the QB rookie doing great as a starter: Vinny Testaverde VS. Ben Roethlisberger. I may be crazy, but I got a hunch, so trust me; this is a showdown.
In basketball, the Kobe Bryant saga continues. Apparently, Phil Jackson had some words about his partnership with Bryant. Wait, Phil’s getting n the melee? It’s about time; you knew this was coming. If ya didn’t, hit yourself with a bat, please? I mean c’mon; he is one of the greatest coaches in the history of basketball. You think he was going to sit back and watch? You think he was going to take that from Bryant? WRONG; I don’t think so. Kobe, what were you thinking?
I would like to take this time to offer my condolences to Yankee closer Mariano Rivera and his family for the tragedy that happened; Mo, I wish you the best. Please reply to me as soon as you get this e-mail. God speed and good luck to you all.
P.S. The NLCS (National League Championship Series) starts today. Houston @ St. Louis: place your bets.
